[Closed] Bottom bracket cups - won't screw in

[#699471]

I'm replacing a Truvatix GXP with wonky bearings with another one (until I need a new crankset). Firstly it's identical specwise in terms of left/right hand threads and diameter (they're both a GXP and I'm using the British threading model). The drive side cup went in fine but the non-drive side won't engage with the thread on the BB in a smooth way - it bites initially but then it clearly runs off parallel with the face of the BB shell. The thing is the older cup will easily screw back in and neither appear to have any thread damage. I'm reluctant to apply any force in case I strip a thread. Any ideas?

Sorted. The big plastic tube thingy that stops crud in the tubes from invading the bearings wasn't in straight and was subsequently pulling the cup in at an angle when turned. I've never done this before so assumed that (because it didn't want to budge) that the tube was permanently attached to one of the cups. Once I yanked it off the cup went in fine so I reattached it and now it's all sorted.

There's a significant deformation on the old cup I'm replacing. How the hell that happened without completely smashing up the inner chainring I have no idea but hopefully it was the source of the creaking I've been experiencing recently. Certainly the bearings inside that cup are knackered.
