Hello all.

Rejoined the Singletrack forum and enjoying the threads on here.

Hoping you can help.

My current XT BB has developed a little wobble after nearly 2 years of use and aduse. I do believe if fitted properly they are good and do the job. However, I am tempted by the Hope ceramic version at a stonking £100.

Is the £70 price difference worth it? Have people found that it is fit-and-forget? Plus is it all hype that it actually improves performance in terms of less friction when rotating the cranks?

cheers

If you've had an XT last two years why on earth not pick up another? I usually pay £15-20 for mine and haven't had one fail for ages.

Two years is very good going, I've had six months out of a Raceface and twelve from a Truvativ. I've a Superstar BB that clocked well over two thousand miles and appears to be in good nick somewhere though.

Maybe stick with XT/XTR.

XT/XTR or Hope SS (wouldn't bother with ceramic myself). My XTR is still going strong after 3 years.

Rudedog, you are a legend. Just ordered a XTR from Rosebikes for £23!!! Result.

Fit correctly and it will last.

Thank you all.

How could it possibly be worth £70 more? Most BBs will do the job and if it's a question of reliability, I'd rather buy 4 cheapos and have a new one every few months.

Not moaning at the OP, just amazed by the price, really.

Not convinced it's any better than an XT, mind. Nice colour though. Gusset's EXT24 is about a fiver more and mine's just outlasted my longest lasting XT, though it did need a clean out about 2/3rds of the way in. Seems good but I want to run and kill another before I really judge it.

Lots of people do reckon it's worthwhile to go with an expensive BB but these people mainly seem to be mysteriously destroying XT ones after incredibly short times, or basing their decision on ancient, early external BBs which to be fair were rotten.
