So Transport for London are doubling the access fees for the Barclays Bikes - surely that's not promoting sustainable travel? They're not expensive by a long way, but why double the cost of it??
because there's no election in the near future ?
but why double the cost of it??
Long shot, I know, but is it to make approximately twice as much money?
Subsidised service for the first 2(?) years of launch to get consimer interest, now time for it to pay its own way.
30 free use hasn't changed, neuther have later return charges etc, so no changes for "average" user.
perhaps to subsidise highly expensive boris buses, and the new paticualte filter that they are fiting to thousands of buses , then there are the huge subsidies paid to the comapnies who run the underground trains.
o/p you could use your own bike.
The intention is to use the extra to fund the scheme's expansion as I understand it. £2 is still cheaper than a single tube fare so pretty good vfm. The thing is although its double it is still pretty cheap and its hardly worth putting up by 20 or 30p.
I don't live in London though, just visit regularly. I'm still going to use them as they're a great way to get around, but doubling the access fee means double the cost as most journeys are under the 30 minute threshold. If any other public transport raised their prices that much there would be an uproar.
