Hi
In the process of purchasing xtr m980 drive train spares for my orange five. Can someone please help me with which front mech. I'm kinda thinking I need to be buying a 34.9 top swing, dual pull triple.
It wil be used with a 42 32 24 m980 crank.
The crc item number for the front mech is 233637.
Would any of the m981 front mechs work?
Thanks

Hello. I am not an expert. I looked at the two items you referred to :

1. Item 233637
2. m981

Seems that the items have the same technical specs (more or less) ;

# Chain Line: 50mm
# Chain Stay Angle: 66-69

Therefore it is the other technical features which make up the difference (top/bot swing) and the physical size of the units (#1 being most compact).

Ring Orange/troll their website to confirm - or go with your instincts. Part for part these days is a good idea (big potential for variance) - but I'm sure they accept returns if it comes down to it. 😀 HTH

It used to be that conventional mechs outlasted top swings significantly.

This may not matter if's just going to sit in your spares box (NEVER heard of anyone buying a spare front mech, but there you go).

You could just buy the same one as on your bike?

CRC returns accepted for 1 year.
