Right, after forking out for the new zesty, I've decided I need to broaden my search for more fun. Looking at getting a bike rack I suppose but need some info or advice from anyone that's used them before.

It going on my golf R32, I mainly concerned about how these universal jobbies, like the saris bones, rest on the body work of the car? Has anyone had any issues like this? And will spoiler get in the way? And also, will they actually hold the bike on? And a mates too? They just don't strike me as looking too secure?!

Or do I splash out on a roof rack? Not sure i like the idea of not being able to see them up there!

Your advice and knowledge is greatly appreciated!

Norm

I liked my saris bones 3 enough that when we got a new car that it didn't fit on I bought a saris bones rs that did.

Both have reliably held multiple bikes on long trips, only issue was fitting on a full susser and I had to buy a cross bar to hook on where the top tube would normally be.

I use a saris bones. It's been on various cars including a Golf (though not an R32!) with no problems. Once it's strapped down its solid and never had an issue with paintwork damage either.

For around the same money I'd be getting roof bars and popping it up there.

Had one for quite a few years. Initially didn't like it as although it was great for traditionally shaped hardtails, it is a pain with a lot of full-sussers. You can get pretty creative - see below..

Get used to it though, and pretty good at figuring out how to slot different frames on. Leave my rack on all the time.

If you are fussed about the paint, I would put a bit of helitape where the rubber feet sit, and a bit of innertube over the strap ends.
