I'm considering getting some body armour, not really used it before but want to step things up a bit on the bike now I'm back from 12 months off. They've built this new blue trail near me and I want to give it a go. 😆

Looking at what's out there and there is a whole load of options. After something that offers some lightweight but reasonable protection for the body. Also looking at getting some legs too.

Looked at the pressure suits and they seem slightly too much, but then looked at things like the 661 Subgear tops which seem too little.

Wondering if just a pair of legs, elbows and a subgear top might suffice.

Anyone got some recommendations? What's everyone using?

I can recommend Alpinestars knee/leg amour. I use the Moab Knee and shin guard for DH and can’t fault them. A mate uses their A-Line knee and shin guard (slightly less expensive I believe) and he seems to really like them too.
I also occasionally use their SLC knee guard and again really like them. Comfy if you just want something over the knee rather than the knee and shin combined.
Haven’t worn any chest/back protection in a few years, but when I did it was a toss up between 661 and Dainese. 661 was always a bit lighter but the fit on the Dainese was that little bit better and it was a bit more breathable too. That was a few years ago though.

The subgear stuff is good - the pads are solid and they stay in place because they are part of the top.

The long sleeve one has elbow pads sop you won't need separate pads.

I couldn't see the point of the sternum pad apart from making you sweat a lot so I cut it out.

The material isn't very warm, I am thinking about transplanting the pads to some Helly Hansen Lifa tops.

The Troy Lee KG5400 are an excellent lightweight knee pad, and there is no excuse for not wearing pads with these:
