[#2360834]

I'm currently running a 2x9 setup, just thinking about going 1x10 just for the hell of it, just a few questions/clarifications needed.

Will a 10 speed cassette go on my old hub?
Will I need a specific 10 speed chain?
Will I need a different chain-ring or is it a case of an old one might/might not work?
Will a combination of a thumb-shifter in friction mode an my old 9-speed rear mech work over a 10 speed cassette. (cant think of any reason not)

Cheers.

Basically, do I just need to buy a new cassette?

I had that thought yesterday about a 9 speed mech and a thumbshifter in friction mode. Another idea that i mulled over was getting a new ratchet machined for a an existing shifter - so 10 instead of 9 ratchet points if that makes sense

I thought that a thumbie could/would only shift over eight cogs? Never got mine to work with a 9 speed set up let alone a 10 ๐Ÿ™‚

I take it you must be new thumbie? ๐Ÿ˜•

Yes
Yes
No - old one will be fine
Technically yes, assuming it could be made to work on 9, but since the sprockets are even closer together you may find it a bit figgle to get properly lined up in any given gear?
