[#4108074]

Just been getting Mrs S's bike sorted for the annual trip. She picked the short straw and gets the child seat for Jr(2) on her 456, while I have the trail-gator on my pompetamine for Jr(5) and his Islabike.

Had fitted my 29er carbon forks and semi slicks and was just about to fit the child-seat mount to the seat tube when it was clear I hadnt tried it on her frame before and the front mech cable stop was in the way.

Fortunately I remembered I had a spare canti stop in my box and together with Brant's propensity to riddle his steel frames with bolt holes..."viola!", as they say, Rodney:

Genius! how far you riding? would a trailer not be an easier option for some long miles?

we normally use a trailer (see threads passim), but had chewed over going with the seat this year instead.

Its been a tricky decision, and TBH Im not yet fixed on taking the seat over the trailer. Problem with the trailer is the 12Kg that has to hang on the bike rack quite far out from the pivot point (grown up bikes need to be closer in). Ive already wrecked one rack, and I dont really want to knacker my new one. And the new one has much less room for 2.5 bikes and a trailer to fit. The old one would fit, but it was too much moment for it.

I will probably do some test packing before committing.

Ah I see. if you have to put it in a car that would be a nightmare.

I hated riding with my son (when he was 2) in a chair, when i got a trailer we rode loads more and further afield.

Is that an armchair from dfs you've fitted on the back? You might need more weight upfront.

A firkin on the front would balance that out and allow for adequate hydration.

You may say that. You may even be right.

But if the Pavlovian reaction of shouting "spoons!" every time the name 'Cynic-Al' is mentioned is anything to go by, that's what everyone believes..........
