Anyone fancy joining us at about 7pm for an hour on the BMX track at Musselburgh?

It will be fun.

Mark

Yes we have. Quite a lot.

It is fine seeing as it's free and nearby.

Ok.. i'll cut n paste what I said in a previous conversation I recently had about riding there.

building has finished, but it's seriously badly built.
it was meant to be a regional standard race track, but the start hill and first straight is only wide enough for about 4 bikes (if yer lucky) and the entire surface used is sh!t
apparently the go-ahead has been given to widen it so it can be used for racing, but TBH if that's all that's being changed there's not a lot of point. Who would want to race BMX on a track with a start straight into the North sea wind, a pedal sapping sandy track surface, rocks popping through on up slopes, rollers and berms and pretty s**t flow in the first place? Second straight is okay and has a couple of nice wee jumps but unless you're in the area anyway I wouldn't go out of my way to ride it.
ridden a few other tracks down south built by the same guy and some were ok but most had ropey sh!t in them too.

The one and only time I rode a mountain bike on a BMX track (the one in Livingston) I almost came a cropper while trying to show off to some kids, so vowed never again! I don't think my Epic was the best tool for the job anyway...

The BMX track in Livi was blown out 15 years ago. is it even still there?
or do you mean Livi Bowl, Steve?

No idea if it's there now as I suspect that the new civic centre was built over it. I used to pass the BMX track on my commute (I did a lap of it on my road bike once) as it was just off NCN75. We moved office from Livingston a few years back but I'm pretty sure it was still there 4 or 5 years ago.

I used to pass the Livi bowl on my commute as well but, while I'd sometimes stop and watch others riding or skating on it, I was far, far too scared to try it myself.

I meant the track that's almost next to the bowl (are we talking about the same track?) used to go to the bowl with a few mates back then and often had mini BMX races on the track for a laugh while we were there

The Livingston track I was on was over the other side of the river from the bowl and a bit further uphill to the west. It was just on the edge of the park close to the path leading down to the bridge leading to the court building.

We can do. We don't keep any in though. Not really our bag - although saying that we do have the best qualified person you could ever imagine here to sell them...

It's something we will look at in the future.
