Went to take my 2 1/2 year old son to the local bmx track to see how he coped with a little variation compared to the normal street loop we do. When we got there (milton keynes) there was a BMX event on and lots of little kids participating - it looked like a well attended local gathering.
Previously thought that taking MTBs were friendly... but apart from the storm trooper bits everyone was very relaxed and didnt mind us observing.
Seems an excellent idea to get bike skills into kids (maybe we should stop a couple of them as they were better than mine!) and a nice way to spend a friday evening........
Anyone else with the same experience?
I take my kids to trials comps. The top riders take time to chat and encourage as they observe/score the lesser mortals. It is really, really friendly and as for skills. We rode with this guy last weekend. He came second.
BMX is feral once they get to teenagers. Anecdotal stories range from Kids fighting at the finish line over what went on in the race to dads retaining legal advise over same.
Its a great place for kids.
All the action happens right in front of you.
BMX bikes cost little to buy and are almost unbreakable.
The basic skills transfer we to mountain biking.
Most clubs have coaching sessions during the week.
