#2 son who is 4.3, graduated from his balance bike to a cnoc 14 only a month ago, and is already showing significant, albeit uncontrolled, ability to drop off things and generally hoon about. Started him on trackstands today too ;o)
I'm starting to ponder the wisdom of getting him on a bmx to develop his skills rather than "just" a bigger bike, but I know generally nowt about the things - I guess these things are bargains 2nd hand, but what size, etc?
Evans' advise 16". He's a small 4 year old, but getting slightly too big for his cnoc14. I notice lots of 14" on ebay too, but most seem a bit, erm, plasticky.
Do they really have to have caliper brakes?
What are the brands to have? Raleigh Burner with mag wheels is my sort of era, not that I ever had one (Grifter...)
Any tips at all greatly appreciated.

We bought my daughter a 12" wethepeople seed when she was 5. She is just coming 7,very tall for her age and It still fits now. They are expensive little things but have proper scaled down quality parts.
For tips I would say get him some good pads. Skate parks and pump tracks can be dangerous places.
Best thing I did was also buy a Bmx. You get to ride around with your kid, They are so much fun and you learn a lot of skills which transfers onto the mtb.

Son #1 out grew his CNOC 14 after a ridiculously short period of time (3-4)- I should have just gone for a CNOC 16 🙄

Anhyhoo as a stop gap we got him a 16" wheeled BMX - a Jamie Bestwick Pro GT off of eBay - for about £50.

After this photo was taken CRC came up trumps with a Union Jack Pivotal saddle and post for peanuts which dropped about 300g(!) and added a degree of further coolness 🙂

Despite being 4130 instead of hiten it weighs a ton but he loved it from the off and I think it's taught some valuable bike control plus learning to carry speed.

We got him a Frog 55 6 or so weeks ago and he took to that straight away but still rides his BMX.

If you could pick one up for not a lot of money I'd give it a go 🙂

That's the thing - do they all weigh a ton?

Andy - was yours a 12" wheel or other? That model seems to be a 16 on their website. 12" is a Prime.

Is the answer just eBay 2nd hand for 50 notes? And a pile of pads?

God knows why I said 12". It's definitely a 16".
As above they do weigh a tonne even a top end model. They are pretty indestructible though which is the point.

Ah! That helps, ta. OK then. Back brake only? Freestyle? Pegs? Any worth considering?

GT ftw Mark! Do they still make good 'uns?

United Recruit any good?
