Hi,

This is my first post on the forum, so 'Hi!'.

So, I'm new to mountain biking. I've been trundling up the TPT in my area (just outside north Sheffield) for a while now, and well - it's nice, but dull.

I want something more challenging from a ride. I used to race BMX when I was younger (back in the 80s' and 90s'), but any skill I had is long gone. So, I'm going on a skills course in October with peak mountain biking, but I'd like a vlue route to try out in the mean time.

Does anyone have any suggestions in or around Sheffield?

Thanks!

I don't think there any graded routes around the peaks. If you ride out the back of Endcliffe Park, you can get up to Ringinglow, which isn't too heavy going, though there is a proper climb.

The Blacka Moor in the Dark Peak book is graded Blue and is short and straightforward. (If you do the road climb option.)

You should come and join our shop rides out on a Wednesday night too!!

Relaxed pace, good riding and good folk!!

We're out every week come rain or shine, usually 10 - 20 folk......starting from the shop or in the Peak....

Keep an eye on our website/facebook site/on here for details on the weekly ride!!

We'll be starting some skills/improver rides too soon......as soon as they let me on a bike again!!!!.....

Hope to see you soon!

Cheers,

Scott

I'm guessing you are in the Deepcar area? I'm Hillsborough based, I could easily show you Wharncliffe, it might be a bit more than Blue but taken at an easy pace and staying clear of the DHs its doable. also i'm heading out on the Endcliffe Park / Ringinglow route coming back through Blacka tomorrow lunch if you are interested.

Podge showed me some excellent trails so I can thoroughly recommend his guide skills!

Maybe i should consider becoming a bike guide instead of sticking with Engineering

All going to plan I'll be doing that woodhead one next week. just need my mate to check his rota for some mid week time off. I shall of course report back in my usual brief style

Hello. I went out on Sat and for a Peaks pootle and did a route that wasn't too technical as I was on my own (and am a bit of a wuss when alone as I don't want to injure myself). The route was just over 12 miles and took me a leisurely 3 hours including a couple of food stops and chatting to other fellow mountain bike riders. There is also scope to extend the ride as you get more confident.

I started in Hope (so I could get cake at the Woodbine cafe at the End). I just went along the road to Castleton (but you could go up Pindale) and then up Mam Tor broken road. Turned right where it joins the main road and then right again to go up the road to the top of Mam Tor (you could extend by going up Rushup edge and down Chapel Gate). From the top of Mam Tor dropped down the road a few metres and went down the "Greenlands" bridleway, at the bottom took the bridleway back up to Hollins cross and then went down the 3rd bridleway to Back Tor Farm. Took a right on to the Edale/Hope road, through Barber Booth and then took the bridleway on the left which goes to Jagger's Clough (steep climb up from Jagger's Clough). At the crossroad of bridleways (I think Hope Cross) I went right and then slight right downhill after the second gate (I think it's the second gate) to continue down the Roman road to get on Fulwood Stile Road and then hit the road back to hope.

Enjoy

Go to Blacka Moor, there's about 3 tracks which ammount to (IMO) some of the best decending in the country, just a shame a fast time is probably under a minute on any of them.

Thanks Podge, I'm at Wortley just off Penistone Road.
I tried the red route Wharncliffe on my own a few weeks back, it was a bit beyond me for the minute (but might have been in the wrong place). Need to get some confidence first. Might give you a shout after my skills course if that's ok?

I'll be in Japan by then so its probably a bit of a commute for either of us

you could try Greno woods, i've not covered that side of the road but its supposed to be easier then Wharncliffe
