[#10120370]

Going there for an uplift day this Friday and the weather looks epic - so unless the random Welsh weather does me (with some rain) it should be dry and potentially dusty.

In terms of tyres, how rocky / rooty is it - am I likely to be ok with Maxxis Exo tyres- ie not requiring double down or anything? It’s on a 160mm bouncer and I’m not in any way ‘epic’ so unlikely to be doing any gap jumps or doubles. I am however up for having a go at smaller tabletops and drops.

Not running silly low pressures - probably 25 at the front and somewhere between 25 and 30 at the back.

It's pretty much a giant BMX track so you'll be fine. I can't think of anything that would pose risk to tyres but not been this year.

It's a fun bike park. A couple of the upper black sections can be loose in the dry but otherwise its just grippy and stupid fast. A right laugh

There are smooth trails, and some slower, steeper rocky rooty bits too. If you normally use Exo tyres, they'll be fine.

I was there first time in May, and hope to go back soon with my new bike.

I’m liking what I’m hearing. On the current bike I’ve only run Exo tyres with no dramas. No issues at BPW (but only blues and reds) and Flyup last week was ok bashing through the rock garden bits and casing some tabletops 😞

Yes as said giant BMX track is a good description most sections fast, flowy and dusty should the weekends downpours have dried up.

Saying that Brown Pow has its fair share of roots rocks.

I was there on Friday and loved it. It's not that rocky, your tyres should be fine, mainly fast, flowy with tables, step ups, step downs and gaps, if you're brave.

I would say stay off Bomper (new trail with big drops and gaps), Full Moto (40ft gaps) and Tidy Darts (think BMX style jumps). I think everything else is fair game, take it easy on first red/black run, there are a couple of doubles that can catch you out... I think it was Ninja Alley and another one on a straight bit, possibly on Moto where there are 3 jumps. If you only just clear the first two, you won't clear the last. The blacks really do seem quite tame, unless its a jump trail! 😉

Thanks Milkie - I think we’ll hit up the blues first - then the reds then try some blacks if all going ok.

Big doubles won’t get attempted nor any road gaps (seen at least one on YouTube). Some drops are ok as long as not too big and will have a go at some tables although if they’re very big I’ll most likely be landing on top unless I’m wearing my big bit pants that day 😃.

I loved Flyup 417 a few weeks ago - it sounds like BMCC is a bigger version of that for the most part.

The rock garden on the middle red at 417 is rougher than the ones on the blacks at bmcc purely as you are going slower.

You will be fine with exo tyres, I have them on my covert and ridden bmcc at a good for me speed. I just don't do gaps

The 417 red does have that one really rough bit in the middle that’s quite uneven and bumpy, but he positive is none of them move. Would be trickier if they were loose....

Check out the video I took there in May, the runs I did here are all easily do-able on a bike like you described. As others have said you'll want to watch out for Bomper and Tidy Darts, but even those aren't really rough, just big jumps!

I'm running 27 PSI front and 25 PSI rear here, there's only a couple of bits I was catching back tyres on but nothing serious.

It's not puncturey but it's the only place I can ever remember having to pump up tyres between runs after just generally g-forcing the **** out of them. Berms so perfect even a knobber like me can squeeze the air out.

Is Black Mountain a lot less knackering than Antur Stiniog ? The level of fatigue after a day (or two)  at AS  can be very high (at least it is for me)

Way less intense. Its about the same speed, but much much less rough. Even the antur blues are rougher than most at bmcc.

But then bmcc isn't really meant for that sort of riding. It's equally as fun but just different

I haven’t done Antur but it looks like hard work. All that slate and rock must be physically knackering.

BMCC looks generally smoother from the videos seen but I’ll post up once I’m back from the weekend on how I found it.

At the moment I’m actually more worried about the hills on the following 2 days riding at Brechfa and Afan that I’m meant to be doing.
