Hi. I am building a clamp for the inside of my car where the front 15mm thru axle will fit with the front wheel removed. I want to buy a bit of 15mm internal diameter steel tube.

Will the thru axle fit as the axle is just lightly under or does the hub on the front wheel just slightly over 15mm ?

I hope the question makes sense as I assume if both the axle and the tube are 15mm there wont be enough clearance ?

An axle/hub/fork are machined with tight tolerances (to hundredths of a mm) that allow them to be slid together by hand with a bit of force.

A pipe is not toleranced. It'll probably work fine though.

I can't work out how to edit, but forgot to say, get a pipe with a thin wall thickness

I made mine out of Oak. 🙂

But yeah, you may find the tolerances tight but possibly nothing a bit of filing and sanding won't solve.

Thanks but the item doesn't fit 15mm x 100mm. Utterly bizarre as I would have thought this is where the volume is...I reckon a £3 drill and a gew screws will allow me to put together some leftover bits of wood as suggested
