Elterwater Hostel is v good.

You'll be lucky to get a single night anywhere, for 5 folk, unless you're talking after school hols.

All the yha places are ace IME, lots of good indy hostels too.

Derwen****er independent hostel! Right on the shore of the lake and literally on the borrowdale bash route. Their central male dormitory has over 20 bunks iirc and several 6/8 bed rooms. Lovely place.

we've stopped at the hydro hotel windermere a few times, if you can cope with the chinese tourist busses, its not a bad place, good breakfast, paid between £35-40 each for double or twins, free parking and they'll store bikes indoors, if you ask,
