Off to Mull with the Mrs next weekend. Was going to take my bike, but I can't see anything on Trailforks or the like. Anybody know of any decent riding on Mull?
I took my MTB and didn't really use it. Next time I'll take my gravel bike, don't have a road bike but a gravel bike would probably be fine 99% of the time on Mull.
There’s very little of what you’d call mountain biking on the island because there’s never been the volume of riders to build / create trails and off-road the terrain is either very rocky or very boggy. There has also been lots of clear felling of forestry in the last decade which means any trails which where there are long gone. However, there are still lots of forest track and you can join them up using short sections of road making a gravel bike ideal, plus most roads are singletrack so being able to run off onto soft verges and gravel makes progress a touch easier. If you’re in Tobermory, head out Ardmore, Glengorm, Loch Tor, Mingary and Dervaig. A longer loop takes you up Glen Bellart, across to Aros and back around Loch Frisa and you can rejoin back at Glengorn. There are two really scenic sections of road: Loch na Keal between Gruline and Gribun or from Dervaig, over the hill road to Torloisk and then back around the coast road. There’s also lots of gravel riding over on Morvern and Ardnamurchan - just a short ferry trip across from Fishnish to Lochaline or Tobermory to Kilchoan.
Cheers
The coast road along Loch na Keal is a great place for otter spotting
Cheers again
