[#4396582]

Off to Barcelona on Saturday and the weather looks quite cool for the first couple of days , so I fancy hiring a bike. See this lot and there gear and prices seem pretty reasonable .
Anyone got any experiance of cycling in Barcelona , I think I would prefer to hire a road bike and try and get out the town maybe climb up the Tibado road or head out to Monseratt or maybe just pretend to be a slow fat contador and do the Montjuc climb.

Your Ideas or experiences are appreciated.

I rode that way in 2000, IIRC it was a bit industrial at some point but can't remember if it was before that climb or not (I didn't do it),

You could get a train towards France and pedal to Salvador Dali's house, it's well cool.

Cheers Al , Never thought of gettin a train somewhere and riding back . Could also just get a mountain bike and head up over the hill for an explore . The bike shop in the link supplies a pre loaded Garmin which would be handy.

I started my trip going up Tibidabo and past Montjuc, IIRC it wasn't that interesting after Tibidabo and minging.

By contrast on the way back I just got the train for the last 40 miles. IME pedalling into or out of big cities is usually not that enjoyable.

So just back from a fantastic week in Barcelona and decided not too hire a expensive hire bike but two cheap hacks (one old orbea mtb and a single speed).
Anyway found a bling fixie bikr shop that also had a not so bling but crackin little hire shop called www.mybeautifulparking.com .
They hire fixie and mtb's for 5 euros for 2 hours but on returning the fixie the guy said I could keep the bike for the critical mass ride for free. I was heading home so didn't bother but appreciated the offer.

On the mountain bike I went from the gothic part to montjuc castle by the Vuelta climb then cut across town to the Sagrada Familla and Casa Batillo and onto the Marina . On the Fixie I just bummed around the Beachfront but Its a great city to cycle in even If your just on one of the BCN bike (Boris bike equivalent). The cycle lanes seem better than most in our cities though It can be a bit of a free for all on the busy avenues.
Thanks for your advice Cynic Al and If your back over there I was told of a good route from Tibidabo heading north to the outskirts of the city and also saw some singletrack routs through the woods from the Montjuc summit.

Oh and the my beautiful parking shop has some lovely single speeds and gear.

The door handles are great too.

Sorry I only saw this now.there's a meetup group for english speaking road cycling-in case someone finds this thread in a search.I'm always up for a ride.
There's two threads on cycling in&around bcn, some good info in those.
With the meetup group we did some intervals up monjuic.
Going up to tibidabo is nicer, then left to martorell.nice easy 40k ride.quiet roads.

Good info emanuel and CFH the weather was indeed great , though when we landed a week past saturday I thought we had taken off from Glasgow circled Scotland for 2 1/2 hours and landed back there. The rain was unbelievable.

I obviously got there in the sunshine! Lovely evenings on the Poblenou drinking cold beer and eating good food!

Apologies! Didn't realise you were out there at the same time as me! I spend a fair bit of time in Barcelona, for work sadly, and yes, it never disappoints. ๐Ÿ™‚
