im posting this for a guy at work who has just bought a chris boardman hybrid bike,the tyres he is running on the bike are 700x23c, what i need to find out is what sort and size tyre can we put on the rim with a lot more grip,has the bike will be used on canal toepaths,the tyre on the bike has only a small lines around it ,to give it some grip its more like a slick,any help please sirs?

you could run 28mm or 32mm slicks such as the Conti GP4 Seasons or Gatorskins

or semi slicks such as the Schwalbe Marathon or Conti touring tyres, again in 28 or 32mm

or go the whole hog and run some cyclocross tyres.

Depends how fast he wants it on the road and how often he goes offroad. The 28mm conti touring tyres are a good compromise. Tough, fairly grippy but still okay on the road.

anything up to 40mm is probably okay on a roadie rim
