I’m struggling to find some down sleeping bags in the square shape (not a fan of mummy style bags) that aren’t crazy money.
Alpkit do one but I’ve missed the offer on them unfortunately, I think they were at £160 which I can stretch to - https://alpkit.com/products/cloud-nine

Any other like that one?

I've a brilliant Sierra Designs Zissou bag. It's wide, it's almost like a quilt in the way it is folded around and has foot flap/vent. I'm sleeping much better when I'm outdoors with some room in the bag.

I think it's replaced with 'Front Country Bed' or 'Cloud'.

Review of the cloud here to give you an idea.

I have both of these from AliExpress, buy from a rated seller, usually arrive within two weeks, both great for the cash.

Look at down quilts as well, I use a cumulus quilt, great quality, other brands available as well

I can’t imagine any down bags from Ali Express being anywhere near ethically sourced

A very good point. And let's remember in down terms that's both grim life and often live plucking.

My thoughts entirely.

Your likely correct.

Which brands guarantee ethically sourced down? How much does that cost? Are the AliExpress ones any different from a Chinese down bag with a branded logo on it? Are Aegismax ethical?

Not being argumentative, I just really don't know.

Brands list which ethical down standard they are accredited with on their websites (there are a few different accreditations). Nearly all of the bigger name have accreditation to one of the standards. Most of the accreditations involve an independent audit of the source of the down. Ethically sourced down is usually a by product of the food industry. Unethical, is usually live plucked.

Aegismax make no reference to ethical down or where their down comes from on their website. Draw your own conclusion from that.

It isn't down and i don't know what season/temp rating you need but I have this and its immense for the money. Packs down tiny for a non down sleeping bag (in fact it packs down smaller than my Alpkit Pipedream 400), is well made and doubles up as a big blanket if you wish.
I got mine about 8-10 years ago for about £35 and its the best value piece of camping equipment i've ever bought. Slightly dearer now but still well worth the money.
