Interesting to see data visualised. I’m sure the popo could get a lot of public support if they decide to do something about it.

Least affected areas: Salford, Rochdale, Manchester, Stockport...

It's a good idea, but has their data been verified? 🙂

Probably where they all end up in the NW

I'd guess that this is where the victims live /postcode of claimant was, rather than where the theft takes place - nothing showing on any trail centers?

Not sure this adds any value to the problem. It just shows bike thefts happen where there are people using bikes basically.

Perhaps a map of where the theft has been resolved by the Police would be better.

Also there is no distinction between nicking a rusted pile of shite secured with a 3mm thick cable lock to a railing (Cambridge scores highly) to a garage stable clearout or worse a bike shop break in with 5 figures worth of stuff gone.

A friend in Didsbury has just had his shed cleaned out again, and I understand there is an issue regarding the reporting of crimes with GMP.

He may just be very bitter at the moment, mind.

Only one bike theft in City of Edinburgh and 0 within the borders. That just does not pass the sniff test of being even remotely correct.

Yeah gotta worry about the data sources. As others have mentioned nothing to speak of in Edinburgh or Manchester looks sketchy but they have over obvious hotspots like Bristol, Oxford, Cambridge and Sheffield covered.

Maybe it’s me but I don’t like the fact you can zoom in to see the street a bike was stolen. As thief’s now have a map showing on what road people have bikes. Some of those roads have a few houses so won’t take a great deal of work to work out which one has bikes.

Doesn't look like it. The two logged closest to me are a on the site of a FE College and business park.

Not looked at link yet but will do...is the data from only Bikmo sources? If so, that could suggest either very few customers of Bikmo in Edinburgh or Borders or, that the customers of Bikmo in those areas haven't been targeted and had bikes pinched...perhaps?

Off to have a nosey now...

Link doesn't load for me, so not seeing any thefts!

Site doesn't seem to be working.

Has the STW interest become the equivalent of a DDoS attack for poor old bikmo?

Good idea, need to see how they get their data & add open source for reporting.

Is this just showing where customers have given permission to report the data?

They should be able to scrape data from the police crime website, I can see local crimes on a map, classified by type - pretty sure bike theft is a class on its own.
