Anyone know of suppliers of the a-frame bike stands that are used at races? After something around a metre or so long.

get on freecycle and ask for some old metal tent poles and frame fixings - probably loads of people with old rotten heavy tents stashed away.

All you need is 2 right angle corners (the ones that connect 3 tubes) and some tubes to make a frame. Drill some holes in the ends to put tent pegs in to stop it going anywhere and bolts in the joints to make it more sturdy.
