[#3772359]

Saw the other multi-tool thread and this reminded me that I would like to acquire a neat, small, multi tool which I can fit into the saddle bag of the road bike, to accompany the two tubes and some trye levers I carry already.

I'm thinking it needs the allen key sizes most common on the bike, a chain tool.
What other features prove to be useful in the real world ?.

Suggestions welcome.

Cheers.

+1 Topeak alien. Mine is ancient like cp's and still going very strong.

I got it to replace a 90's Cool Tool (which I still have somewhere):

I use a crank bros 19 jobby on road rides, bit rusty now but it has almost everything, just short of an adjustable spanner and nowadays you only need them for straightening rotors and how often do you have to do that?

ahem 🙄

Have variants of the Ritchey CPR (Compact Pocket Rescue) still kicking about somewhere. The really old ones 🙂

[img] [/img]

alternative is a general set of allen keys, and a chain tool separately until you know what you need..

Wished I still had my Ritchey CPR 4 that was a great tyre lever and had just the right amount of tool for most things.

I have the Crank Bros 19 too and it seems really nicely made to me. Haven't had to use it that much in anger but the chain device works pretty well.

not used mine yet, worried it'll be a bit rubbish and as a result carry a proper chaintool xc, good to hear.

It's obviously not as nice ergonomically as proper one but it does the job without fuss.

I have a Topeak Mini 18+ which is really good - all the tools you'll need, not silly heavy, easy to fit in a pocket and very nicely made.

Lezyne, SV5 without chain tool SV10 with - 50 and 100g respectively, all you need for a road bike
The SV5 would literally fit in a matchbox, perfect for a pocket or saddle pouch 🙂

Topeak alien with the little pliers/pincers which ar euseful if you want to change brake pads on a ride.

However they don't seem to do that one now. There is another thread today where someone links to a scarab type foldup tool that has a small set of pliers, for about £8.

Got two Cool Tools 🙂

consider this as well to get some pliers:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000MST0NS/ref=oh_o06_s00_i00_details0037

it is small and light.
