After seeing it mentioned here, I realised I was not the only person who couldn't fart while sat down on a bike.
I'm pleased to report that after much practice, some meditation, maybe some pelvic floor exercises, and a literal journey of self discovery, I'm now able to fart sat down. Even while pedalling!
I'm willing to impart the wisdom of this mystic bike skill to you for as low as £5 per hour if people make a group booking.
