I'm in Perth (Tayside) for the week and was wondering if there are any decent bike shops nearby? I need a new mousetrap, this one's old and I hear from marketing men that better ones are available.

Perth City Cyles and Richards in Perth are ok. Dundee has a couple decent ones too. Spokes on Perth Road and BikeWorx in the centre. Depends what your looking for really......

there are a couple of good ones in freemantle, combine a look with a day/night out, its a pretty cool town... even if it is very much like small town USA

Richards on George street is a Spesh/Giant dealer which is more road / kids bikes oriented.
Perth City Cycles is a Trek/Bonty dealer, is bigger and has a larger selection of top end kit and bikes.

I prefer the staff that work in Richards and use it for 95% of my purchases / correcting my own ham-fisted-maintenance.

Oh and there's Escape Route in Pitbroccoli which is always worth a visit, if nothing else, but to listen to Kevin Dangerous's patter.

Perth City Cycles is certainly more up market and aimed at enthusiasts (people using this forum?). They specialise in Scott in addition to Trek/Fisher.

Very good on maintenance if it is something tricky (bottom brackets etc) and Alastair is a top bloke also.

Theres also Comrie Croft Bikes - a very small shop selling only basic spares and mostly ex hire bikes, but with a bonus of being right on their own hand built trail head - not the place to go for top end spares but well worth a trip for the biking
