I have recently gone back into the Bike Trade after a few years off & I've been searching around for Bike Couriers, as I'm not really selling enough at the moment to warrant setting up an account, but I'm getting increasingly frustrated at trying to find a good one. Most of the Couriers now-a-days seem to want to send Bikes & Frames at the Senders Own Risk! There are some companies that have them listed as Prohibited too!
Another thing that worries me is will it get there? An expensive Frame that was recently sent to me via my supplier was 'lost' in transit & never to be seen again! This was from a well know company! This has also happened to me in the past when I sent Bikes to customers via Royal Mail & TNT, although quite a few years ago now. I know it's always a risk that things can get lost but really they shouldn't!
Plus, I hate it when they pick up you're Bike/Frame & just place it in the back of a 7.5 tonne van, whats to stop it sliding, crashing & banging around in the back?? We've all seen how they drive the bloody things, as to them time is key & you're bikes not really that important to them! It's worth how much??!!
So it's got me wondering about setting up a Bike/Frame Collection & Delivery service??!!
I have a New Van, which also has plenty of Tie down eyes so I can strap/bungie everything down, I'm in the Bike Trade & I totally understand about handling other peoples property & treating their property like it's my own. I look after everything! At the moment I certainly have the time as it's still early days with the shop.
The Items would have to be collected all Boxed up and correctly packaged with nothing hanging out etc
As for Pricing I was thinking £30 Per Bike/Frame + 0.38p per mile for the distance between the seller & buyer.
If there's more than 1 box then it's an extra £5.00 per Box.
There wouldn't be a surcharge for weight as it would just be a fixed price for 1 box.
Distance would be worked out on Google Maps to keep everything fair.
There's a few more considerations to be had yet but what does everyone think to the idea in principal?
