It doesn't seem like there's much point in reading them any more - all bikes seem to be pretty decent these days.

This is a good thing, mind.

The bike industry slush fund is now so big that they just throw cash at all the mags to ensure good reviews. Perhaps.

Are they also all the same?

I like reading them, esp the smaller independent ones who go into detail. The mbr style crappie this chap that 9/10 not so much.
Some bikes look great on paper but are just not right, others are bad on paper but cracking bikes.

No-one told me this. Well the next review I do I will be demanding a four figure sum for my approval ๐Ÿ˜†

I'd give them about 8/10.

It's a tricky area, I imagine there's some unwritten gentleman's agreements that companies who buy lots of advertising and provide gifts and free samples get favorable reviews.. Whilst not bribery as such, it happens in many industries.
