The lights on my tow-bar bike rack aren't working properly - only the left rear indicator comes on, plus the audible beep you should hear in the car has stopped. Any ideas on how to sort this out?

I've gone over the connections and just eyeballing them they are sound - plus swapping out the indicator bulbs shows that they are both good. The rack must be 6 or 7 years old, though, so there's some corrosion on the connectors.
I was wondering if the thing that makes the beeping sound is a discrete component somewhere, and maybe it has failed?

Is it a Ford by any chance? Or what car is it?

Have you changed any other bulbs anywhere else on the car at all since you last used the carrier?

On the tow bars I've owned (both retro fitted) there was a small box installed near one tail light. Both were about the size of a deck of cards and is connected to reverse, stop, left / right, etc. That's where the beep comes from. It needs a permanent 12v supply (that fuse can go- or if a Ford - the "light control module" will it try to close it off).

Im sure someone with more experience will be along shortly.

Thanks csw - it's a seat exeo, and I think I have changed a couple of bulbs recently. I'll take a look to see if I can find where this beeping unit is installed.

The buzz box in my car was fairly easy to locate when it failed (it buzzed but no electrics to lightboard). Just wired in behind one of the rear light clusters.

Was nowhere near the size of a deck of cards though. More like this sort of thing [img] [/img]
