[#5525374]

Hi guys,

I'm doing some research for a product design project based on specialized bikes. If you could give me some answers it would be great!

Is there anything that you would like on a bike that isn't already available? Is there something that annoys you when riding that you think could be improved? And do you think there is a gap in the market anywhere? And if so where?

Thanks

Gap in market between 27.5 and 29er wheels ? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Specialised have quite a few spesh specific fitments for shock etc which a pain and limits upgrade options.

That's a very wide, open question for products in a mature market.. Is that the brief they set you? (just interested)

I'd really like something that would bring the trail alive. If only there were something like that around...

Some sort of RFID tech for commuter bikes that would help with not getting squashed by left turning artics in town.

And Jameso, not a brief just a few questions that might be able to help me find anything that could lead to a product idea really, you know stuff like, longer pedals or more ergonomics bars. Stuff like that ๐Ÿ™‚

the shock thing is right - i must get round to finishing the convertor so you can run a normal fox shock or ccdb in a stumpy or enduro

There are no easy pickings in bike product innovation, ISTM. 650b is a cry for help, really. A creatively bankrupt step from an industry that cannot picture the future of mountain biking. (in part because it looks like the present).

Think there's more space in related areas like clothing, protection, mapping, lifestyle bollox etc. Don't think anyone would say we've arrived there.

greta! all really helpful stuff! thank you everyone! unfortunately, i cant do textiles, so clothing wouldn't be an option, but rider protection definitely sounds worth a further look!

Shaft Drive?

Hub gear system in bottom bracket?

Anti-squat kinematic front suspension?

Two Wheel drive?

Helium filled frame?

Twin rotor disc brakes?

An 853 Steel 29er hardtail which rides like the BMX I had as a kid? Oh hang on...Cy Turner designed that....can I have it in Custard Yellow?

How about a pump that can do tubes and shocks so you always have a shock pump for fettling on the trail without carrying 2 pumps

more ergonomics bars

Bingo.. imo. There's some good starting points as well as room for new ideas there. I've been cutting and rejoining old bars trying an idea out recently. Fashion is against you tho.

You'll probably end up with one pump that weighs the about the same as the other 2 )

Specialized obviously thought that there was a gap in the market when they introduced 142+.

Most pointless standard ever.

No idea if they still do it, but two small bearing in the horst link on old models is just stupid & difficult to replace, put a one decent sized in there.

A dropper seat post that uses the frame/seat tube as the cylinder for the uppy-downy piston-thingamy.

When you think about it it is slightly preposterous fitting a thing-within-a-thing-within-a-thing to allow the seat to move up and down, when it could simply be a thing-within-a-thing (the seat tube)..

...did any of that make sense?? ๐Ÿ˜•
