I'm considering ordering one or two batteries from mtbbatteries.co.uk to go with one of those SolarStorm lights that should be somewhere between here and China at the moment.

I can't work out whether it's worth also buying the charger they sell. At £26, it seems a bit steep. I know many of the cheap chinese chargers are prone to catching fire and exploding, but the charger that came with my MagicShine MJ-872 seems to be very well made. Can I just use that?

Really? I don't deny that some have, but 'many' is an gross exaggeration, I hope your pulling our leg posting that.
Dell, Apple, Sony and man other major brands have had products go up in flames too, yet everyone still seem happy to buy them.

MTB Batteries kit will no doubt be very good (£26 only sound expensive compared to the chinese ones..), & if you need the piece of mind go for it, but your Mj-872 charger (why hasn't it caught fire?) will be fine too..

Sorry, what I meant was that 'many models' of the chinese import have been known to explode, not many individual units...and ok, maybe 'many' isn't exactly the appropriate term, but you know what I mean (I hope)...

Thanks hainman, that looks identical to the one that came with my MJ-872, so will just use that.

Cheers!

My original magicshine charger didn't fit my new non-magicshine battery - if yours is the same, you would have to chop the cable and swap plugs.
