I don't know of any stand out policies at the moment, you'll need to read the policy docs, things I would look for are:

Covered as part of the sum assured usually 50/100k whilst in you home as opposed to capped at lower amount.
Some will cover the bike whilst on your property in the garden etc without it being locked/inside the house garage.
Some include cover away from home without you paying extra, usually limited to 1k though.
Some will let you add bikes up to 2/3 k away from home with limited or even no security.
Some include third party cover for when your riding furiously on the pavement.

Just read the document that's what your buying not what's in the webpage blurb(BS).

Just renewed today, m&s wanted extra £100 with bikes specified.
Went with John Lewis in end, premium cover with 3 bikes, total £7.5k was £15/month cheaper.covered up to 60 days worldwide aeay from home too.
If any way rural look at NFU.

Interesting - as far as I can recall both M&S and John Lewis are underwritten by AXA.

They are the only two as far as I know that offer that level of cover - away from home, new for old, accidental damage etc

Worth paying for the peace of mind IMO

Moved from M&S to Aviva, cut my renewal in half. Total value of the contents cover is lower but from a bike perspective, cover is the same. LV would have been about quarter of the price if I hadn't been concerned with away from home cover.

LV = Liverpool Victoria

M&S is Axa, John Lewis is RSA.

Chatted and said I was covered for as many bikes as, totaling £7K

Aviva wanted £200

Isn't there a £3k limit on individual bikes? They won't cover me as apparently we're a subsidence risk, even for contents!

It's £7K, even for one, or as many as may be nicked presumably

Likewise, also been with M&S for years to cover bikes. Just spent a load of cash (£4.5K) on a new bike, so want to make sure it's fully covered. Renewal due in Dec so want to get it right.

We just renewed with M&S, the renewal quote was reasonable, couldn't find anyone else to offer comparable cover.

Like njee we just renewed with M&S. John Lewis would have been about £20 or so cheaper for comparable cover but for that difference I couldn't be bothered changing. M&S were about £100 more for me this year over last. It was about £600 for buildings and contents including the bikes. NFU only does new for old on less than 2 year old bikes. As said above check the policy details. If in doubt phone the company. Some policies don't cover away from home or need them locked in a Fort Knox equivalent at home.

Admiral. Think it's their Platinum policy.

Good cover including away from home and despite upping my buildings and contents for inflation, renewal quote was less.

Our M&S quote was marginally cheaper this year - only £260. Worth noting they have no limits on individual items (bikes aside) - If you've got expensive jewellery or whatever it's all covered.

I'm with Lloyds at the mo and they're getting pricey, plus they're not that great for bikes, so I'm trying considering John Lewis based on the good reviews here.

Do they require specific brands of locks or anything like that?

The bikes are locked up in a lockable shed thing within a lockable basement that is only accessible through the building into the back garden which is surrounded by a 10ft high wall. The bikes themselves are all locked with an Oxford motorbike shackle and then Kryptonite and Abus bike locks. I take it they'll have no issues with any of that?

Also, apart from one, all of my bikes are all custom built. How do I insure them for their max value? Like if my Mega was nicked, even the top end one from CRC wouldn't be up to spec. Plus, some parts were bought 2nd hand so I have no receipts etc, other than PayPal records.

Yeah, that's what I like about it. No need to list dozens of individual items. Can you recall what the max value limit is for individual items, especially bikes?

I think you'd have to discuss this with the insurer to clarify. But I would have thought detailed photos and whatever receipts, proof of purchase you have would be a good start. I can't imagine they would replace the second hand parts you bought with new.

Is it not just old for new though, like most people don't buy new cars or houses for example.

I'll call later to clarify anyway.

There is no limit for virtually everything, a £100k diamond necklace is covered (certainly was anyway, as I don't own one I didn't clarify that at renewal). Bikes over £2k must be named, but there's no limit on the upper value of named bikes, either singularly or combined. £4500 will be fine.

NFU tell me that I'm a flood risk, according to some register, so will not cover the house. There's no risk of flood, I'm on sloping farmland, so cannot understand why I'd be listed. Anyone know about this 'register', and how to get it corrected? Everywhere I've tried is quoting me about 40% more than last year and I'm looking to be stuck with M&S...
