You can certainly get some ropey tourist bikes for day rides but I wouldn’t want to tour on them. There may be better hire places too of course.

I rode with Fred, the owner of Black Sheep Adventures when he was in Wales last year - they seem like a decent outfit.  I think they have road and hybrid bikes:

I rented a lovely Santa Cruz Bronson CC for a few days from Summit Cycles in Los Gatos. If you're going to Santa Cruz you will pass very close to them. However, it was pretty expensive and for two weeks it will be a lot cheaper to bring bikes with you.

Having said that, I've just checked their website and it's actually only about $415 for 2 weeks for a SC 5010, so maybe it's not so bad when you factor in the hassle of bringing a bike over.

If you do rent through them, it used to be the case that their rental website didn't actually hook up with the bike shop; probably worth phoning the bike shop to confirm.

It’s $150 for a weekly rental of a FS MTB from our regular shop downtown  https://bikeconnection.net/articles/bike-rentals-pg66.htm
