All the bikes I have (Marin Alpine Trail 1997, Commencal Meta4 2009, OnOne Trail fat bike 2019) are 'old school' geometry. I'm thinking I would like to try out a more recent bike, but it would have be a secondhand puchase as I don't want to spend too much.
So how far back did the LLS 27.5" geometry start becoming wide-spread, so I can start searching for a bike?
27.5 started around 2014, proper LLS probably around 2018.
(weird, niche, outliers accepted, before anyone starts)
On One Hello Dave/Wrekker/Tik Tik would be a good place to start.
There were a few outliers - Geometron, Mondraker - but yep, late 2017, early 2018 was when LLS really started to become a thing. Smaller manufacturers being faster to take it up than the monster brands (IMO)
The new Orange P7 that started in 2016 after a few years away was pretty LLS from memory? Not Geometron LLS but certainly more than most at the time.

A lovely Geometron for sale in the classifieds.
Price is also negotiable.😉
I've one of those P7s and it is a really lovely bike. I had it out at Kilburn yesterday and it's certainly more capable than I am. It's a large if you want to drop me a line.
How do the geometrons size up? Can I assume that 6'1" is too tall for the medium?
It's Mrsstu's bike but I have ridden it a few times and it felt fine.
I'm 6' tall.
I might have a Large Geometron G13 for sale in the next week or so.
Definitely interested, just trying to work out what I need want. I shall watch with interest.
Also, any excuse to bob up to the Valley.
Only note of caution about looking at 27.5 bikes is that decent forks and reasonably priced tyres are already getting thin on the ground.
Forks yes - think the time for a 60% off 650b fork has gone and won’t return.
tyres are still quite necessary for the rear end of these newfangled mixed wheel machines
Another vote for a bird, great value new and secondhand can be an absolute steal. They had the LLS from early on with geo tweeks to stack and seat tube
Bird are a good shout and come up cheap second hand
I’d also look at Whyte bikes from 2018. The 90* series of 650b hardtails were progressive from this time and lots of fun
Sonder transmitters too (if you’re looking for cost effective 650b hardtails)
Thanks everyone for comments. Will start looking around
I had a 2016 Mondraker Dune carbon that was longer reach in a medium (475mm) than most large frames were at the time. Sold it to a mate who's still riding it now although he's using a 29" fork and front wheel and says it's better in every way
For full suss the Bird Aeris 145 / 145LT / AM160 / Aeris 120 / Aeris 130 / Aether 7 are decent geometry and none of them are wild expensive secondhand anymore. Just pick one based on the travel you are after.
For hardtail the Nukeproof Scout is alright, and the Bird Zero AM is also decent - neither should be that expensive in the 27.5” wheelsize. Also see the Sonder Transmitter - super cheap. The Vitus Sentier was ok in small and medium but the bigger sizes had enormously long seat tubes and they aren’t super modern in terms of reach.
decent forks
IDK, I’m about to sell a pair off my 2015 Canyon Spectral Al 7 EX. 150mm RockShox. Can’t recall which model. Pike? Serviced at slick ‘n’ slide earlier this year.
I hadn’t realised the benefits of changing bikes more frequently than every decade. Maybe that’s slowed down a bit since LLS but I wish I’d changed from 2015’s geometry to something more recent sooner. So. Much. Better.
