Hello,

I'm putting together a Kniffenback frame with a 2010 universal top / bottom pull deore 9spd front mech and my 32mm tyre hits the extended cable routing part of the mech (the pivot part).

It's a top down (clamp), however would a bottom up clamp position the cable routing any lower? I don't think so.

What I think i need (short of running skinny tyres) a front mech that has either super low / thin cable routing (the part of the mech that pivots. Maybe a road one or older model mech might do??

Any ideas very welcome 😉

can't find any photos on line. email me and i will try to sort that out...

I realise this is an old post but I also had this problem on my 29er. I used an XT M771 derailleur which seems fairly low profile anyway but used a dremel to cut off half of the cable guide/pivot arm. After doing that it can only be used as top pull, since my frame was setup for bottom pull I had to use a cable stop clamp on the top of the seat tube but it gave me plenty more clearance and doesn't look too bad... Let me know if you want some pics. 🙂
