Is it possible to build an okay ish bike for £500 if second hand parts were used with a new frame?
Yes if you're getting a new On-One 456 for £99. Doubt it if you're getting a Cotic Soul for £430.

Yeah I was looking at on-one, is the inbred or the 456 better?
Different, not better. Inbred for up to 100 or 120mm forks. 456 for 100mm to 150mm forks so depends on what you want to do with it.

Well I would want to use it for XC and the occasional trip to cannock chase and other places similar.

Would I be able to get the rest for £250 though?
I reckon. Wheels for 100 leaving 150 for cranks, geary bits and finishing kit. Go 9 or 10 speed to save a bit of cash. Would be good fun to build it up over a few weeks with some judicious classifieds buying.

Thanks 🙂 Any recommendations for wheels? Also my friend wanted to know whether he could use his Yukon FX2 parts on an on-one 456 frame?
Superstar do their XCX wheelset for £100 new. Not sure if they're any good though but their more expensive wheels got a great write up on SDH.
I saw someone had some superstar XC-430 for sale on here, I read some reviews about them and apparently they are supposed to be quite good for the money :s
