Apparently cars cost the same as many reasonable quality bikes.

And many saddles are as uncomfortable as razor blades.

BBs need facing

Wheelbuilding is difficult

29ers inherently suit taller riders better

CK headsets are good value for money (at usual retail prices)

Steel frames are all springy, aluminium ones all stiff and dead.

Carbon is crap for mtbs because of lack of impact resistance

Wavy/bent/skinny seat/chainstays make the back end of the bike comfortable

8/9/10 speed is weaker and wears significantly faster than the previous iteration and clogs with mud more.

Pretty much any material science stuff that the mags print (which I note ST mag rarely does - thumbs up!)

You NEED x inches of travel for a particular type of riding or conversely that just because one of the STW-heroes has cleaned a 2 mile vertical drop on a cx bike with a spike for a saddle, skinny tyres at 1000psi and no brakes that everyone else can do so and more importantly will enjoy it.

Lightweight bikes would break on proper mountain bike trails, and corollary that if you can do it on a lightweight bike it's not proper MTBing.

XC isn't mountain biking.

Newbies on £2500 bikes becasue Evans told them thats what was required.

A guy on a stumpjumper HT (the 90mm forked XC bike) in full on starship trooper gear.

No I said I don't fancy riding the 7.5lb 66's on my bike tomorrow night! They are just too overkill and chuffin heavy. The Distributors have sent me a brand new set of forks yesterday after giving up on the previous ones so should be with me tomorrow... hence I've mentally moved on from using the iron girder forks and cant wait to ride on something luvly again!

My ..28th? pair :mrgreen:

no problem with pads at all... but people riding with body armour strapped to their bags/back for them to put on for the 'tech'/dh sections.

either wear it, or dont wear it FFS.

That Fox are interested in supplying after-market forks rather than just getting as many forks on OEM bikes as possible.

That be me that be! What's the problem with it? Have you ridden laggan black or CBM? I'll carry the pads up for the first descent after a long lay off of gnar, such as after this winter where after 4 months snow is still a factor, but usually don't bother with them at all. I certainly don't like doing a 750m climb with them on. Canny see your issue but each to their own.

each to their own indeed. just find it amusing when the top of glentress looks like everest base camp, with 50 riders all decamping and redressing for a 5 minute downhill!

then presumably stopping and getting changed again as soon as it rises up!
