Dual ply maxxis? Or any dual ply tire I guess.

if you dont mind the weight then as previous poster said, dual ply (ie effectively double thickness sidewall) Maxxis. I've got 2.35 Maxxis Minion DHs in "super tacky" compound. They are heavy, roll like punctured tyres on tarmac, but refuse to pinchflat and stick like snot to dirt and rocks. Will be getting the same again when they wear out.

Nokian Gazzalodis with DH tubes - superb

This lads having a laugh.

Good when your 12 and you dont have enough money to buy replacement innertubes. Awful any other time.

Im also not convinced that having dh tubes gives a tire a tougher sidewall?

Yeh, my mate got some intense tires with his VPfree when he bought it off some chap. They are really heavy and not upto much by the looks of it.

Dont know if they were the 4 ply versions though

Michelin comp24s are a pretty tough tyre, and roll better than most DH tyres. They come in 2.2 or 2.5 sizes. Not cheap, but if you really need the extra strength...

Otherwise, a Maxxis Minion or similar in 60a compound and dual ply would be OK.

Michelin comp? Surely that's a tractor tire.

I think those new Conti Rubber Queens are meant to be pretty tough in the sidewall.

Conti Protections - Perhaps a Mountain King 2.4 (they're quite small tires)

Kenda Nevegal / Blue Groove 2.35's - Downhill version has Cap Ply casing & wire bead or for a lighter tire the kevlar bead version can be bought with SWS side wall protection. An excellent tire combination - tough, grippy, maybe rolls a little slow but then grip slows you down!
