Off to Bideford area last week of Oct
Are there any good places for riding and bike hire nearby? Just general XC stuff.

Look for the Tarka Trail. Flat disused railway track. You will find bike hire on there also at barnstaple station.
The is also a wealth of proper biking . Head for Codden Hill.
