At least that one turns,we've got one in our workshop that manages about 10 degrees (using 2 hands, and brutality) with similar sound effects.

Meh.

Given that bicycle manufacturers seem to think that popping a 'sealed' bearing into the bottom of a headset/fork assembly is somehow adequate protection from the elements, and that said bearing not only gets spray from the front wheel, but also any water that enters at the top of the headtube from the bike being washed, I think you are over stating the issue.

I've had a similar noise when my sealed bearing died at the bottom of my headset, and I'd been riding it quite happily up until the day it decided to make a crunchy noise and almost stick in place.

It's not user error, it's a crap design.

I would be a bit pissed off if that was my bike posted up there.

...also, are you not selling a bike which:

The headset is a bit gritty but there’s no play in it and it should last ages yet, and the same can be said for the freewheel

...which a) is a poor show for a bike mechanic, and b) the first steps to the above video.

Jamie is Sherlock Holmes aicmfp.

It pays the bills, and I do love cocaine.

As an aside, I really think it's a shithouse move to post a customer's bike on Youtube/STW to laugh at. I wonder if they know they are paying for this privilege?

Why is it a poor show? It's a used bike.
I'm being as honest as I can be, and I fitted that used headset to improve on the OE one that was knackered. It'll be fine, like I said it would be. 🙂

EDIT
Oh yeah, and that bike had my patented 'Super PDI' when we first got it from East Street Cycles which involves me stripping, regreasing and adjusting everything so it was absolutely spot on, the sort of thing a normal PDI can't do because it takes so long. So I know the BB isn't seized, the hubs are as smooth as a babies bum, the wheels are correctly tensioned and true and nothing is loose, creaky or falling off.
There's a few people on here bought bikes off me and I can assure you that they're all as pleased as punch with them. I look after my bikes (And my wife's, like this one) very well indeed. 🙂

I can see it's got STIs, they probably want to keep the gears if it's all the same to you. 🙂
