[Closed] BHF Peak Challenge in March
Group of us signing up for this. Have ridden Ladybower and Edale a few times, but the route for this goes a bit further south. Any locals got info on what the trails are like there in terms of gradient and technicality. Would like to know before I choose which distance (38km or 80km) to tackle - don't want to do the longer one if the first half is tough.
This is the route map -
First half looks fine to me, one biggish climb, but the rest is mostly on fast-ish well-surfaced tracks and tarmac. Later on, I have no idea why they're routing an organised mass event down the badly eroded descent from Whinstone Lee Tor to Cutthroat Bridge though.
I remember the original thread where they were going to route over Cut Gate and changed it, but given the likely state of the WLT trail in March, it seems like a bloody stupid track to choose. Why oh why oh why etc. 🙄
Did wonder about that when I saw the route. If it isn't already, it'll be a 10m wide muddy motorway by the time a few hundred tyres have been over it. Not good.
Maybe I'll just opt for the shorter route and claim it's because I don't want to contribute to erosion!
Shame they put all the other fun stuff in the longer route.
id say your biggest concern in mid march might possibly be the weather, it could be dry and sunny, but its a possibility there could be huge amount of snow and ice about
Snow and ice not a worry. Ridden the Peak a few times in those conditions.
