So Who's going?

It looks a good route, almost what you'd put together yourself for a long day out in the peak. (Although it misses out the Beast and cavedale, but you can add in the beast if you want)

Flipping 8:30 start - and a 3pm Cut-off in Hope, which is still 90 mins from the end, so they must be expecting it to take about 8 or 9 hours for the full 35 mile course.

I'm No. 65, riding the white Cotic Soul. Should be wearing a red "Team Carnell" jersey, along with Pete & Darren.

Say "Hello" or "Are you sure you're OK" or "Why's he being sick" as appropriate.

A couple of mates did it last year. The route sounded pretty rubbish tbh, dunno if it's changed though.

I don't know if it's changed, but it's a top route. All your favourite bits.

think it is more mtb / less road this year from the flier - keen to have a go, but just cant make the 8.3 start - not sure why it needs to be that early as its going to make it impractical for allot of people (2hr jny + time for registration + comfort / set up bke etc = early!).

I think it needs to start that early because it's dark by 7. So they want everybody back by 5 (8 1/2 hours in the saddle) which gives them 2 hours of daylight to get the stragglers off the hill.

I'm being picked up at 5:45.

I've wimped out and entered their Robin Hood Challenge in November - easy warmup to Clumber aand back and then I'll finally try the trails at Sherwood Pines.

And what's with the problems with the 8.30 start - I'm doing the Colomba Chemo Classic in November - I anticipate having to be up at 5am to get up to Richmond, just for a poncey road ride!

I'm in. Where did you get the route from John. Will look out for a White Codic. I'll be on a black Yeti 575. You won't be able to miss me, it will be the biggest bike there...

Good day for everyone else in the world to avoid the area then eh? I've just been out round Hope /Ladybower and the whole area is plastered with little signs pointing out the 'right way'. I'm kind of uneasy about that, feels wrong and I'm not even sure it's legitimate.

I'm not knocking the BHF and other similar worthwhile causes by the way, just the wisdom of running a mass event on popular trails and sticking little white signs up all over the place ;-/

I think I agree with you there BWD, but when I was asked it was hard to turn down. Should be a cracking day out though.

Should be a very windy day out, I think. Stuff's riding well at the moment though - try not to run over any walkers... I'll be riding somewhere else I think 🙂

How many of the signs will still be showing the right way in the morning?

Typical - I plan a relaxed ride with a mate for tomorrow as a break from loads of competitive events, and the route is bang in the middle of an event.

Mildly annoyed.

🙂

Yep, that was windy at times. Got a glowing face today. Was blown clean off the bike twice. Superb day though. Extreme route then 4hr drive home.

How did everyone else do?

Don't see the problem with having signs up for the day and I know the National Park are fully supportive & involved with all the events. Tourism = Cash.

Hardly a problem sharing trails with other riders is it?

Bah humbug.

How many 'other riders' was it? I hear what you're saying, but I just wonder about running a mass-participation event over multi-use public rights of way in an area as popular as the Dark Peak.

Not trying to start a fight and actually, as I avoided the area yesterday, I don't know how busy the trails were as a result, but I think it's a valid question.

Is that 'Bah humbug'? I don't know. The trails are there all the time, you don't have to participate in a mass event to ride them.

only a very light hearted bah humbug.

Just had a great time and lots (100 odd, spread over 3 routes) riders got to explore some new trails, supported, who may not usually do something like that otherwise. 'Charity ticket' enables me to get away for a weekend of cycling too.

I went up couple days before (great weather).
Did 'The Beast', Cavedale & Jacobs Ladder.
Really enjoyed the beast, but obvious why they don't include that in an event. I don't overly like Cavedale, but maybe i'm too jey!

I had a bit of a mare yesterday. Toughest ride I've done this year.

Trails weren't particularly busy, seen them much busier in summer. I was number 142, I reckon there weren't many more than that.

rockitman - what was your problem. Did you do the extreme route?
I saw someone with a snapped off pedal.

Rain didn't bother me but the wind did make it tough at the end. Ah well resistance training!
Got some chips in Castleton to eat at top of Mam Tor but had to hold onto them very tightly as it was seriously gale force winds up there.

Wind assisted down Whinstone Lee tor was exciting......

singletracksurfer - http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/not-had-a-very-good-ride-today

The wind was a killer yesterday & Mam Tor into what must have been a minimum 40mph headwind after 6 hours...

Excellent event. There were plenty of other riders about - some coming our way, some going in the opposite direction. I don't think anybody's day got spolit by the event.

It was bloody great!

I did some other riders, but 150 people doing an event on a 35 mile circuit doesn't exactly make the trails congested! The 8:30 start is tricky- but there were lots of people from Manchester and Sheffield and I guess most other people stayed over the night before.
