I'm after some new SPD shoes and have been looking at these http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-m064-spd-mountain-bike-shoes/

Are there any better value SPD compatible shoes that you can recommend that are not Aldi/Lidl/Muddy Fox specials?

If it were my choice I'd probably go for the Shimano ones you've suggested.

I have a set of (admittedly) road Shimano shoes which I've had for 6 years now - they've done plenty of miles (thousands) and show no damage.

I've also had very good life from a pair of Specialized MTB shoes (think they were the entry level ones, which cost about £50 at the time) - they are still going after 3 years hard use.

I would avoid any 661 shoes - I bought a cheap pair for about £30, then had to replace them after they fell apart inside of 6 months.

If you get the Shimano ones bear in mind they tend to come up a little small and sometimes a little narrow for a given size.

If I was buying a new pair of MTB shoes tomorrow, then they would be Specialized or Shimano

I've got DHB ones from Wiggle for both road and off road. Had the road version for 5+ years and they show very little signs of wear so got a pair of the MTB ones this summer. Very pleased with them so far......

@dknwhy I did take a look at the DHB M1.0 but was a little put off by a number of the reviews mentioning durability issues but sounds like your experience has been ok so far.

@cycl1ngjb Forgot about Specialized, will have a browse online in a moment

Decathlon have a few that look OK if you can see past the brand.

Chaino once dumped a load of M077s on the market for £21.99. Can't find anymore but they were an end of sale special. Maybe worth looking out for something like that at the usual suspects.

If you're not hard up against a budget then take a look at the AM51s.
