Mate wants confidence of using flat/spd combo.

However, wondered if something like an M545 would be a better bet?

I use Time.....

I have a pair on one of the bikes and think they are pretty good

I tried these for my first experiments with spds. They are a nice idea but impractical off road. You find yourself struggling to clip in quickly and end up with one foot in, one out, unstable and off balance. You then either decide to get proper SPDs, as I did, or proper flats.
