i'm aware that these days google is only really returning sponsored results. So is there a better way of searching online for the cheapest retailer of a new bike? Google gives me the same 4 or 5 (fee paying) shops whereas i want whole of market if i can??

There isn't one (ok, there's bikehound which is rubbish), especially if you want to search mainland Europe too.
