They have to be boxers?

There are loads of underwear options from the people that make base layers and such. I have a great pair from REI, but they aren't boxers, they are briefs.

I haven't worn anything padded under my shorts for any form of MTB for ages now

For anything up to a day I'll generally just wear normal boxers

For anything over a day (bikepacking etc) I'll usually wear synthetic boxers that dry quicker than normal cotton boxers. My trips aren't longer than 3 days

I've been considering some merino boxers but figured they'd take ages to dry if they got wet in the rain

I wear lycra for riding on the road (commuting basically)

Was looking in decathlons website for this just yesterday they seem to have some good offers.

I usually just use normal boxers. Can't stand padded shorts unless on a really long road ride and even then don't like them.

Saxx are good, nifty little mesh thing to keep everything in place. Arcteryx merino ones also good, particularly so because they have some funky seam stitching. Spendy though.

Anything that doesn't have a seam to chafe on long rides. Usually something in M&S

+1 on Under Armour BoxerJocks. Fairly synthetic/quick-drying. Various lengths available, think I went for medium leg length figuring that'd be more than long enough...

This thread has confused me.
Cycling = cycling shorts but no boxers.
Not cycling = boxers but no cycling shorts.

2 pairs of the UA boxerjocks are on their way to me. Saxx just too expensive for an experiment... baw bags maybe next time.

Worn some of These for walking and some minor cycling forays. No seam, stretchy, long, cool, no chafing, no bunching up, hold up well. Wish had discovered years ago! Highly recommended.

*edit oops late to the boxers party

Not cycling = boxers but no cycling shorts.

It can't be that hard to understand that not everyone wants to ware padded shorts for all rides, especially shorter rides of just a couple of hours.

I personally don't find padded shorts add any comfort unless out all day, > 5 hr.
