Best hardtail for a grand...ish for racing duties?

what do you folks reckon,will mainly be used for xc racing and a bit of commuting here and there

looking at

1.On one whippet
2.Whyte 809
3.Cannondale SL1
4.Kona kula

anyone have any other suggestions or any reviews of the above?

Boardman Pro is now £850. I was thinking of a whippet but the Boardman spec was too good at that price and I can always buy the whippet frame later.
