Budget halfrauds or XTR? Break the bank with Nokon or play safe with XT? Which cables should I fit to my new build? Any clicky links to best buys are most appreciated 🙂

I use Black Snake, full length outers for crud-proofness.

yup ive put black snake on a new build and pretty impressed,
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Transfil_Black_Snake_Gear_Cable_Set/5300005632/

didn't provide enough outer for my build, i should have measured before i bought though.

My gore cables have just given up on my 2005 6-pack. Thing is, they were transpllanted from another bike before that! I'd go with the gore. failing that, just XT, I've not noticed any difference between Xt and XTR cables (and this comes from someone with an XTR drive).

XT (SP41? outer) works well enough for me (with a mix of XT & XTR drive train). Just replace them when they get sticky, 10 minutes, job done. Played with Transfil flying snakes for a while, not impressed, not good for full runs, gunked up as fast as XT, no noticeable difference when new. I might be missing a trick with Gore or Nokon cables but I'm too tight to shell out and try them when I don't have any noticeable problems with XT.

I use Fibrax Powerglide Sport (available direct from Fibrax and comes in two different lengths. Seems good so far and looks bling with my Hope/Goodridge braided hoses. Cost me about £18 for front and rear iirc.

Pic is of brake cables, but you get the idea.

Tried a few but none better than XT/XTR for the price.

Gore good, Nokon better. Both splended bits of kit.

Gore Ride-On. I have had one set for at least 3 if not 4 years.

Nokon creak after a while and can eat your frame but work well. New Gore are expensive but are the very best (Snakebite has some). Flying Snake are OK but same as the Avid one where you get funny plasic sheaths which can crack, especialy in cold weather. If stuff does get in it needs strip down to get it flushed out.
XT/XTR outers & XTR inners are best VFM and what I use. Middleburn cable oiler are OK but spraying stuff onto coated inners can rot the slicky coating.

Very pleased with my white Goodridge ones. Very slick shifting and fully sealed.
