I don't want to spend a fortune but equally, I don't want to use any cowboys either.

Post office charged me £12 for a frame in a box. Actually goes by Parcel force

Use interparcel and pick the best option for you.
Note that interparcel consider a bike frame a "restricted item" so the insurance is for loss only (not damage).
