East St Cycles in Farnham is very good. Good stock, big shop, helpful staff.

East Street are very good, staff very helpful. Or it could be worth a trip to Dorking and go and see Head for the Hills. Good shop, good staff.

I don't require much. Just seems that every shop I've been into recently has left me disappointed. The things I want are never in stock and there was nothing else to tempt me. Just feel the overall atmosphere is always lacking. East St are good. I used to work with Gary when I was in the trade myself. Top bloke.

Nirvana Cycles, Westcott, mostly for the rides they run to be honest.

Are Nirvana poor?

I was considering getting them to to build up a pair of Chris King hubs I've had sitting around for a while. Not a wise choice?

would definatly recommend for wheel building, that they are very good at. Its hard to say really the only thing id say against them is they can can a touch 'sarky' if you get them on a bad day. I do use them for all my mechanic stuff though, they really know their business. and dont be afraid to ask for a discount on parts, you might get something 😉

I haven't used them for anything since they asked for 20p for two cable ends.

Head for the Hills seem good though. They built up my PA.

Head for the hills have pretty high labour charges and i wasnt that impressed with a service they did on my bike. nothing to outragous, i seem to remember that they forgot to do one of the small things i asked for, but i wouldnt use them again.
Quite a few of the people i ride with rate C&N cycles in redhill
(a suprise to me!). Not may high spec parts to be seen but good service and mechanical skills. Avoid finches in reigate for anything other than kids bikes. Also have only been in East street in Farnham for about 10 mins to buy a crankset but was pretty impressed.
pretty much all the shops i have knowledge of!!

Nirvana have built me wheels in the past they were well made and stood up well.

On the other hand Head for the Hills, Had a number of disappointing experiences mainly around there physical mechanical abilities as well as after sales service I have never been back and never would.

Another vote for Nirvana cycles here. I had my wheels built there too, wouldn't get wheels built anywhere else now.

C&N - friendly.

Also a surprise vote for Bikehut in Dorking. Picked up a Bianchi on a c2w scheme from them. Friendly guys, helpful, bike well set up. What more do you need?

When I was thinking of frame sizes, were happy to let me out on a "surprisingly expensive" bike 3x over my spending limit just to nail down sizes and stuff. When I collected, and asked for a couple of things done to the bike, ie different pedals fitted they did that happilly.....

Yeah, I've found it to be a good shop aside one member of staff, think he's the manager...barely gives you time of day and my wife overheard him telling a customer "We don't stock that and they're rubbish anyway" and not in a helpful tone.

I do like Head for the Hills and also Bikeplus in South Croydon. C&N are alright and have been around for years, as have Finch&Son. Bought my Orange Prestige at Beyond Bikes (Well, it was Motosport iirc at the time) and always worth a look. None to impressed with Cycleworks but just my experience as others have poistive things to say.

When I lived down Headley way my choices (in order of preference) were,

- Cycleworks (Leatherhead)
- Freeborn (Esher)
- Head For The Hills (Dorking)
- Cycles Dauphin (Box Hill)

I wouldn't touch a certain other LBS in the area with the longest of barge poles after they built me the most shonky pair of wheels ever to grace a non-supermarket bike.

I won't mention them by name as it happened quite a few years back and I decided to bury the hatchet after mauling them on quite a few forums every time their name was mentioned and also as it seems the wheel builds have improved since they took on someone trained to build wheels to a professional standard. Unfortunately they don't seem to have been quite so mature, as one of the comments on their website makes obvious, though to be fair I can be a bit of a t***er at times.

Have had great service recently from both Cycleworks Leatherhead and Head for the Hills in Dorking.
