Sports pursuit had some Rivelo Honister bib shorts for 50 quid a couple of days back. Worn for the first time today - very nice indeed.

EDIT: Bah - they're back up to 120 now.

EDIT2: The black/charcoal ones are still fifty.

If you're a big bloke with fifty quid - https://www.evanscycles.com/fwe-bk-bib-short-EV227507

Otherwise v2.0 - https://www.evanscycles.com/fwe-bkb-2-0-bib-short-EV289098

I've found them very comfy even on long rides

Look at Pearl Izumi at Tredz. I have severa; pairs and they are great. Not the same as current stock but worth a look. Better pad IMHO that my Wiggle kit and thats nothing to complain about. Fine for 100 miles +

Merlin cycles own brand. Pads the same as shorts costing twice as much. I thought they sized up a bit small though.

Those decathlon ones have replaced the dhb ones as my general use shorts of choice- going back to the dhbs seems a lot less comfortable than I remember them now. If you can find morvelo cheap I really like them.

If you can find 50% discounts it should bring Endura FS260, Castelli velocissimo and Gore Oxygen within budget.

All are good shorts even at RRP, but regularly on hefty discounts

DHB Aeron and Gore Power i'd rate as adequate for 2-3 hr daily training rides, but you can do much better.

Bought a load of Polaris pieces a few months ago when on sale, very impressed with their kit for the price.

Why the general preference for bibs over shorts?

Zipvit. Think they're 40 and often a discount. Most comfortable I've worn at any price. Perfect for under baggies.

I just bought some dare2b shorts from evans, although there is a sale on at the dare2b website too. These were £15 and i think they are brilliant and compare well with my raphas and gore and santini

Decathlon, 700 or Aerofit. They're brilliant for the moment, better than shorts double the price in my eyes.

I prefer them as it stops my back getting exposed...

Plus it holds my belly in makes me look like Big Daddy

Decathlon aerofit here too, sold my dhb's afterwatds. I'm 6', 12 1/2 stone and the medium is perfect.

Because shorts tend to roll down over a long ride, and move around particularly when wet necessitating a stop ever few miles to hoick everything back into place. Bibs just stay put.

That and looking like big daddy.

Got to say i never have any problems with normal shorts and actually prefer them, although not many options for quality shorts without bibs.

Scott from Start Cycles. Very good quality and you can have two pairs for your 50 quid. I've just ordered a second pair.

I've never suffered from this or any of the other disadvantages accorded to shorts. Shorts are also easier to pee in the hedge with for my second favourite hobby of open air micturition.

However it's more difficult to get quality pads in shorts (I guess bibs are seen as more 'serious') so bibs are a safer bet unless you know exactly what you are buying
