[#11270019]

Looking for a new wheelset for my BFe max.

Needs to be boost and reasonably strong as I am 116kgs.

Don't want them to heavy if possible.

I have a budget of £500.

What would you be looking at.

Thanks.

DT 350, EX471. <£500 and bombproof. Can recommend action sports, they did a good build for me last I used them. https://www.actionsports.de/en/dt-swiss-350-boost-disc-is-custom-wheelset-mtb-29-19387#0829e6a1339b5d268b3cee601cb9e8b1

Posted this a few times in wheel threads.

I’m the same weight and went with Ex511 on Hope pro 4 hubs from Moonglu.

Had them a couple of years and they haven’t needed any work since. Now on a Ripmo frame and getting slightly abused and have also been on 2 hardtails.

Highly recommended by me.

EX 511 on DT 350 built by 18 Bikes

I can't find the link but there is a wheel builder that trades in the UK but is based in Spain most of the time, has a good reputation for build quality and price.
Predominantly DT Swiss builds

500 sterlibg isn't far off a set of Newmen Evolution A30, which have been really good for me, I even bought a second set.

I’ve built up a BFemax and killed a wheel already- nukeproof horizon. I’ve gone for a DTswiss EX511 and 350 hub from PTcyles with the upgraded ratchet all in £588

I've ordered hope pro 4s with ex511 rims from moonglu for £500 as my new burly wheels.

They were low on stock, but I was happy to wait as I really wanted that exact combo.

Spank oozy trail wheels? Reviews make them sound very tough and capable of taking decent width tyres.

I’ve had hunt trail wide and enduro wide.
Thankfully I’m now using XM481/pro4s on my SolarisMAx ‘bike for life’ build

Im using hope pro 4 enduro wheels, I’m 125kg, and i use the bike for bikepacking.
I haven’t had to touch them in the almost 3 years I’ve had them.
Bike is a surly karate monkey, when it’s loaded I can barely lift it.

Thanks all.

Going to have a look at moonglu for the DT/hope wheels.

Has anyone run the new crank brothers synthesis alloy wheels yet ?

Fit wheels. EU are associated with Bikestajca in Poland and do great deals on hand built wheels. I''ve got DT 350 hubs with XM481 rims and DT Comp spokes for well under your budget. They have EX471 and EX511s for under 400€

My money would be on SPANK & if you're lucky could bag a set for £300 then have £200 left over for a fork service & tune up

Interested to hear why you've put "thankfully"? I've got the Hunt trail wides, ruined the rear rim on the first proper ride and it's been with them for two months now awaiting repair.
